Before you can use Navis N4 Vessel Planning and Control, you need to set up the system by making your internal codes, yard layout, report formats, specific configuration, and models for the ships that call at your terminal available to the Navis N4 XPS client. This is usually done by the N4 administrator at your terminal, often with the help of a Navis LLC representative.
Setup procedures include creating or adding the following:
The yard file, which defines the parameters of your yard and its different sections. In addition, it determines how the yard and its components display on the screen.
If your terminal does not yet have its yard defined in a yard file, you first need to define the yard by creating a new yard source file. Your N4 Administrator, with the help of a Navis engineer, will create the yard file during XPS installation. For more information, see the Navis N4: Installation Guide for Windows.
Data files. Using materials that you provide, Navis engineers construct the following custom files:
codes.xml file
settings.xml file
equiv files (for EDI, if required)
palette files (for shared use)
logo picture file
For more information, see the Navis N4: Installation Guide for Windows.
Ship files. You create the ship files using Navis ShipEditor. For more information, see the manual Using ShipEditor.
